WORLD KALE SHORTAGE? NOT AT TOP JUICE

Over the last few months, there have been numerous reports regarding a world-wide shortage of Kale. This has been due in part to the explosion in popularity of the vegetable and its numerous health properties. Whilst spinach has been favoured by Popeye as the vegetable of choice to inspire superhuman strength, even he may make the switch after finding out more about this lush vegetable that packs a healthy punch.

Part of the cabbage family, according to Webmd.com; ‘Just one cup of chopped kale contains 33 calories and 9% of the daily value of calcium, 206% of vitamin A, 134% of vitamin C, and a whopping 684% of vitamin K. It is also a good source of the minerals copper, potassium, iron, manganese and phosphorus.’

Kale is also a great source of a number of age defying, strength-inducing antioxidant vitamins such as A, C and K. These have a variety of health benefits that can help fight cancers and dramatically improve eye health – and we thought that was just carrots!

In combination with its unrivalled health benefits and overall fantastic taste, it’s no wonder that the vegetable has become the ‘go-to’ for those looking for a health boost. But, it’s this fascination with this powerful green vegetable that has driven the world-wide shortage.

Fortunately, Top Juice has been working with local, Australian growers for years having been using the vegetable in a number of products since 2008 – well before the recent boom in popularity. Having discovered the delicious properties of kale on one of our trips to source the best Australian ingredients, it has since been a firm favourite on the Top Juice menu.

Our relationship with our growers ensures that Kale will always be a staple feature of our menus and we love coming up with new ways to enjoy this super food.

How do you have yours?
